I Learn Like That...?

Yesterday we took the Gardner Intelligence Test and the Gregorc Learning Styles Test. On the Gregorc Learning Styles Test, my scores were pretty close together - for Abstract Sequential, I got 14, for Concrete Random and Abstract Random I got 15, and on Concrete Sequential I got 16. I do think that Concrete Sequential describes me best, but honestly, I am a mixture of all 4. I think that's why my scores were so close together. Some traits of Concrete Sequential are practical, organized, hands-on, detailed, and exact (all of these accurately describe me). For the ones I scored 15 on (Concrete Random and Abstract Random), there are less traits that describe me, and some that I didn't realize were true about myself. Examples: sensitive, emotional, imaginative, deep feelings, independent, inventive, problem-solvers, and curious. I think that these type of people would need a special independent place, time all to themselves, and maybe independent projects.

On the Gardner Intelligence Test, I scored 5 in Logical-Mathematical, 4 in Musical, 3 in Bodily-Kinesthetic, 2 in Spatial and Interpersonal, and 0 in Linguistic and Intrapersonal. The ones that I think describe me the best are Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical, and Intrapersonal. I never would have thought that even though I love music, I would score 4 in Musical. And I DEFINITELY never thought to score 3/5 in Bodily-Kinesthic. I am the exact opposite of an athlete. Even though I got 0 in both Linguistic and Intrapersonal, I love many of the things listed under Linguistic and Intrapersonal, and none in Interpersonal. Who knows? What I think about myself might not be completely true. After all, does anyone truly know everything about themselves?

This knowledge could help me in school because I am mostly a Concrete Sequential learner, so I could make a chart or something on the computer (such as a PowerPoint) to help me study in school. I already know that I like working by myself (on certain projects) but for things outside of school, I realized that I actually do like working in groups. Plus, I thought that I'm not a leader or the one who organizes things, sometimes (just sometimes!!) those words do describe me, so in future school projects, maybe I'll be the one to take charge, who knows?

One person I admire is definitely my mom. My guess is that on the Gardner Intelligence Test, she would get 5/5 in Logical-Mathmatical because like me, she loves experimenting, puzzles, calculating, etc. Also she is a math teacher (She subbed at Northern High School once and even at my old school Chesterfield Elementary!) She loves math and reasoning. On the Gregorc Learning Styles Test she would most likely be an Abstract Sequential learner because she is logical, a thinker, studious, and a thinker.

Another person I admire is my 6th grade teacher Mrs. Shuford. I think that on the Gregorc Learning Styles she would have been an Abstract Random learner, she is very emotional, likes discussion, and also she is sensitive. On the Gardner Multiple Intelligence she probably would have been a Linguistic learner. She likes reading and writing.

Finally, I admire my doctor (yes, my doctor!) Dr. Jacques. On the Gregorc Learning Styles test, I'm almost positive he would have been a Concrete Random learner. He is a risk-taker (when many other doctors gave me ONE medicine, he changed it to what he thought was best, and it worked!) He is also independent, compared to my other doctors. On the Gardner Multiple Intelligence Test, he probably would have been either a logical-mathematical or spatial learner - once when I had swine flu, he drew pictures out for me to help me understand what was happening, but he also thought more than any other doctor, "what's going on?". That's why he's both, in a way.

I commented on Abdullah's and Maddie's blogs.

  1. Ashna,
I also got in the concrete sequential group for the Gregorc test. Not many people got in that group!!
Anyway, on the other test i got linguistic and you got 0 in that category!! isn't that weird!
I too agree that i am concrete sequential. It is cool how all of your scores for the Gregorc test are so close. I guess you really are all of the 4!
    GREAT JOB ON YOUR POST!!

  2. "After all, does anyone truly know everything about themselves?" I like this because I agree with it. Even adults are constantly struggling to know who they really are. You did a nice job self-reflecting and analyzing. I would love to see you "take charge" of a group project one day, I know you can do it! Is Dr. Jacques from Hamilton Pediatrics? If so, I know who he is -- I used to go there as a kid. Great post, Ashna.

    1. Yes, he is from Hamilton Pediatrics. And maybe being a leader wouldn't be THAT bad.....
